Supporting Neurodiversity: What It Is & Tips On Working With It with Robin Langford
This week, I'm welcoming one of my good friends to our YouTube Channel to talk all things neurodiversity!
You might remember Robin Langford from ep. 89: The 2022 Astrological Forecast. She’s an astrologer, stoic witch, philosopher, teacher, and life coach. She helps you navigate the crossroads of fate and free will so that you experience life on your own terms.
She’s also the head coach of the Alchemical Business Accelerator and the beloved implementation dominatrix within that program. She’s a wonderful part of the Dirty Alchemy team.
And she has a ton of experience working with neurodiversity in her professional and a personal life, so I'm so excited to talk with her about this.
In this video, we're diving into juicy topics including...
My recent ADHD diagnosis. (2:09)
I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, which came as a huge surprise to me. I always did well in school and in my business, so I didn’t fit into the stereotypical ideas about what ADHD looks like. But even though I always had a high GPA and my business is doing great, I have a really hard time with the little things in life – like doing the dishes and going to the grocery store. Especially for women, neurodiversity often looks different than we expect it to look.
I’m sharing what it was like for me to discover that I have ADHD, and what shifts I’ve made in my life since receiving my diagnosis.
The best ways to support yourself in business if you’re neurodiverse or you think you are. (3:16)
Don’t try to fit yourself into the model that everyone tells you should work. It probably won’t work for you the way everyone says it will – and it might just leave you feeling even worse. Instead, think about how you can make your business more conducive to your unique needs. Do you need to change your schedule? Maybe you can start only taking calls during certain times of the day, or you start taking calls over the phone instead of a video call over Zoom because that feels easier. Or maybe you just need daily naps!
Accommodations are the way that you make your business work for yourself. You probably already have an idea about what works for you and what accommodations you can make. The key is to actually make them instead of shaming or pressuring yourself into doing things in ways that feel more challenging for you.
